CashewBack Methodology

CashewBack is designed to help shoppers compare savings opportunities in a consistent way.

Because cashback rates, gift-card discounts, and promotional terms can change quickly, our methodology emphasizes transparency, timestamps, and direct verification.

What we compare

CashewBack may display or discuss several types of savings:

  • Cashback portal offers
  • Fixed-dollar shopping rewards
  • Discounted gift cards
  • Retailer promotions
  • Coupons and promo codes
  • Credit-card rewards as a separate consideration

Not every savings method is available for every retailer, and not every method can be combined.

Cashback comparisons

When comparing cashback offers, the headline percentage or dollar amount is only one factor.

We also encourage shoppers to review:

  • Eligibility requirements
  • Product-category exclusions
  • Coupon restrictions
  • New-customer or existing-customer rules
  • Maximum rewards
  • Payment thresholds
  • Expected payout timing

Where possible, CashewBack displays a timestamp so shoppers know when an offer was last checked or updated.

Gift-card comparisons

Gift-card discounts are generally expressed as the difference between face value and purchase price.

For example:

  • Face value: $100
  • Purchase price: $96
  • Discount: $4
  • Effective discount: 4%

Actual savings can vary based on denomination, inventory, delivery method, fees, and marketplace terms.

For live gift-card comparisons, CashewBack currently uses CardBear's public comparison API as one data source and may combine it with approved direct partner feeds as they become available. The displayed marketplace name comes from the source data, and shoppers should confirm the final price before purchasing.

Stacking calculations

We do not assume that savings percentages can simply be added together.

If a shopper buys a discounted gift card and also earns cashback, the two savings components may apply to different transactions or bases.

For educational examples, CashewBack may calculate an effective savings rate using the actual dollar savings divided by the original retail purchase amount.

Ranking principles

When multiple offers are shown, the highest visible rate can be useful, but it is not automatically the best option for every shopper.

A lower rate may be preferable when it has:

  • Fewer exclusions
  • Faster payout
  • Better tracking history for the shopper
  • A lower minimum withdrawal threshold
  • More flexible terms

CashewBack therefore presents comparison information rather than guaranteeing a single universally best choice.

Update frequency

Savings data is dynamic. Our goal is to refresh high-interest retailers more frequently and maintain clear "last updated" information where technically possible.

Even a recently updated rate can change before checkout. Always verify the final offer on the provider's website.

Affiliate relationships

CashewBack may receive compensation when users click or transact through certain links.

Compensation does not change the mathematical treatment of a displayed rate. When we have an affiliate relationship, we aim to disclose it clearly.

Corrections

If we identify a stale rate, incorrect description, broken link, or outdated restriction, we aim to correct it promptly.

Visitors should treat CashewBack as a comparison starting point and confirm final terms directly with the relevant provider or retailer.
